BROKE Town Halls scheduled as window for federal panel input closes

2-town-hallsWith the Kinder Morgan TMX Panel deadline to voice concerns about the proposed Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion fast approaching, Burnaby Residents Opposing Kinder Morgan Expansion (BROKE) has organized two more town halls for residents to learn about the risks associated with the project.

“We only have a few weeks to voice our concerns to the Ministerial Panel examining the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion project,” said BROKE spokesperson Ruth Walmsley. “The deadline for online submissions is September 30.”Read more…

Real Kinder Morgan Hearings

The federal government is expected to make a final decision regarding the proposed Kinder Morgan Pipeline and Tanker Expansion by the end of this year, and they need to hear from you!

The majority of British Columbians & First Nations Peoples are opposed to the proposed Kinder Morgan Pipeline and Tanker Expansion, and hundreds who applied to participate in the NEB hearings were denied the opportunity to have their voices heard. In May of this year, the Federal government appointed a 3-member panel of ministerial reps to consult with communities and First Nations along the route of the pipeline – but this is not enough! Saturday, February 14. Doors open at 6PM at the Mountain Shadow Pub, 7174 Barnet Road, Burnaby

Tickets are just $20 and include a burger, fries and a house beer, wine or pop. (Chicken and vegan alternatives may be ordered at the Pub for $2 more, payable to your server.)

Public Meeting with Kennedy Stewart

BROKE is holding a Public Meeting with Kennedy Stewart, MP and Official Opposition Critic for Science & Technology. The purpose of the meeting is to update the community on new pipeline developments, including Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain expansion study and selection criteria, the new National Energy Board application process, and responding to questions regarding the pipeline, tanks, and tankers.

Information Session with Kinder Morgan

Kinder Morgan is holding informations sessions throughout British Columbia, Canada about their plan to dramatically expand their shipments of diluted bitumen from the tar sands in Alberta to Burarrd Inlet, passing near schools and through housing developments, pristine forests, rivers and salmon bearing streams. Many community groups are opposed to Kinder Morgan’s proposal and to the existing pipelines, tank farms, refineries and oil take farms, but they are not being heard. Kinder Morgan Town Hall at Stoney Creek

The first community forum on Kinder Morgan’s plan to radically expand their pipeline from Alberta to Burarrd Inlet in Burnaby, British Columbia was held on June 28th, 2012. The speakers included Michael Hale of Pipe Up Network and Sven Biggs of No Tankers.

The second community forum was held on July 7th, 2012. Speaking at the second forum were Kennedy Stewart, MP Burnaby North, Ben West, Wilderness Committee, and Celine Trojand, Dogwood Initiative.Read more…
